Art is the largest category that is perceivable in this universe. This category is synonymous to aesthetics, however also including that which is permeated by aesthetics – media, which in fact is anything that exists in this world for an artist, e.g., perceiving the universe as beautiful (aesthetics in effect). More simply, art includes music, painting, sculpture, literature, architecture, cinema, and theater. All art forms are variations of aesthetics.
Because the meaning of art is the existence of art, “what really is art?” is binded to “why do art?” We do art to express something that is intrinsically driven. Whether that be a vision, or to settle with one’s existential belonging by “being art,” or to be associated with a culture, community, or context. One wishes that a certain “something” existed in the physical world. As if to make dreams into reality. This “something” is from the innate world of the individual. Expressing that “something,” sometimes comes naturally. Usually it takes some work. The more aware of the self, the more aware of the innate world, the more effective when manifested. The more aware of the physical world, the more the self is embodied, the more physically manifestable the innate world. As the emphasis on the “self” is a required phase, compromise is often considered to be negative in art, unless compromise in the form of “love for people” is potent in the innate world. That being said, this is a process without an end. An infinite regress to the point of no return, within the disintegration of the “linear,” beyond the sequence of “who are you?”s Each moment functions as irreducibility. Each work is the crystallization of the “irreducible.” The answer is in doing art.
However, doing art can be facilitated by having some awareness. Articulating what is fundamentally nonverbal, such as the “innate world,” is possible through a metaphoric model of thought. Exploring the self is like opening a treasure box that has fragments of “talent.” The more complete the puzzle, the more complete the “innate world.”
In this endeavor, it is important to seek meaning on a personal level.
How can the following be metaphorically represented?
Name
Race
Nationality
Gender
Personality
Society
Ideal
Love
Justice
Peace
What makes you unique?
What do you wish to be?
The last two questions always have an answer.
All one must do then, is express it, to be an artist.
The genesis of expression, then, is aesthetics.
